Hybrid Work, Hybrid Calendar

 
 

At first glance, it may seem daunting but now with more companies implementing a hybrid working model, requiring employees to come in-person a few days per week, creates the path for more parents to implement a homeschool and working rhythm. You can look at your week into thee types of days:

  1. Office Day - On this day while you are in the office, your child is scheduled for in-person activities whether they be classes, scheduled co-ops or homeschool pods.

  2. Home Day - You continue your commitments for work but block certain parts of the day offering 45 min- 1 hour side-by-side assistance with your child's assignment. Whether it's reflecting on what they learn or going over a difficult problem they are working on. (For those with 4-10's schedule, look out for an upcoming article about this)

  3. Rest Day - Your child is engaged in something fun. It can overlap an existing learning subject (because that's the best thing about Homeschool) but they are not expected to be "activated". In our house those are Friday-Saturday with Sunday being the time I can focus on starting the week right with them. But in general Rest Day is made for both of you to rest from your commitments with each other. They rest and so do you.

To successfully orchestrate our Homeschool While Working weekly rhythm, you'll need to:

  • embrace the flexibility of hybrid schedules

  • coordinate work and school details

  • include technology as part of learning (but not entirely!)

  • leverage your nearby enrichment services

  • develop a routine that works for everyone

  • regularly assess and adjust your strategy
