Myth Busters
This may evolve into something much more as I usually don’t like to just give you a list. However I thought I’ll start with a list of misconceptions I’ve encountered over the years with a response. Let’s see if any of these resonate with you. Are there myths about homeschooling you’re holding onto that you’re ready to learn the truth about? Break through this institutional wall and notice the grass is greener out here.
Myth 1: There's just no time to homeschool while you work. You need to choose one or the other.
Busted: You do not need to choose between homeschooling OR work. With the right intentional planning and coordination it can work. Find the windows that aligns with your schedule.
Laptop Society have flexibility in blocking calendar to be intentional of calls/meetings
4-10's who are in the medical industry can dedicate instructional hours to 2 days per week with rest day the entire family enjoys
Part-time: Structure where children are scheduled to seated enrichment/online classes and dedicate parent-lead learning on the hours you are not working
Entrepreneurs:
Seasonal workers: Low season - condense material and focus on key topics. High season: allow children to free range and enroll in enrichment classes.
Myth 2: You cannot transition your child from "regular school" to home school
Busted: Children are thriving in a homeschool setting especially when you make that change in the elementary years. With the right structure, support and resources, children are owning their learning experiences and the data is showing. Washington Post touts that it's the fastest growing from of education and Brighterly education writes, "In 2020, there were up to 2.65 million homeschooled students and in 2021 – 3.7 million. By 2022, this number has grown to 4.3 million." This means people are doing this in droves and children are responding well.
Myth 3: You need to structure a "homeschool" schedule like regular school.
Busted: The goal for many homeschool parents is NOT to structure it like regular school. The goal is to structure it around you and your child's needs. Whether you have child-led learning or more pre-planned, you can insert effective learning experiences. Studies have shown there are many learning styles (visual, auditory, read/write, and kinaesthetic)
Myth 4: It costs a lot to homeschool
Busted: You can transfer your existing costs towards homeschooling, and it will be OK.
Our homeschool services are aimed at families already spending money on private school, enrichment classes, child care, and uplevel learning. Switching to homeschooling simply means reassessing your spending plans and, sometimes, leads to savings!
Myth 5: I won't be able to evaluate my child's progress with traditional standards
Busted: You can still assess your child's progress using standards. States publish their educational standards, and private services offer assessments along the way.
